| Latest NewsSUPERCLUB FORMAT CHANGED ON REQUEST OF THE NEW ERA MEMBERS OULTON PARK IN APRIL 2008 - WILL NOW BE TWO RACES PER CLASS THE ENTRY FEE STAYS AT £125 A Rider’s Meeting was held at a bitterly cold and wet first round of the 2008 New Era SuperClub Championship at Cadwell Park on Saturday 15th March. The general consensus of opinion was that the new single race format of 30 minutes on the first day of a two-day meeting was very tiring and would become much more attractive if it was altered to a two-race format in future. It was felt that the programme would be much better if it could be changed to one race of 20 minutes or so and another one, of around 6 laps, for each Class in order to provide two points scoring opportunities on each and every day of the Championship. The Club is happy to take the views of our members on board the views and the format will be changed to that mentioned above and will be operative from Round Two of the Championship which is due to take place at Oulton Park on Saturday 26th April. As it’s not practical to issue revised Regs and Entry Forms to everyone - riders should note that everyone entering for the Superclub at Oulton should enter on the existing Entry Form and pay the standard Entry Fee of £125 per Class. The Office will automatically enter everyone into two points scoring races. PRO-BIKE PRIZE MONEY AT SUPERCLUB MEETINGS Winners at Cadwell Park on the 15th and 16th March were:- Ian MACK £250 John FISHER £100 Peter BAKER £150 Total £1,000 SAFETY CARS – ANOTHER NEW ERA INNOVATION In order to reduce the number of Red Flag incidents that mar the enjoyment of so many riders in so many meetings the Club successfully piloted the use of Safety Cars in Club Racing last year. The cars can’t stop all Red Flags of course and they also require the co-operation of the riders in that the information and instructions they have been given at their compulsory briefings must be strictly observed. It worked well at Cadwell insofar as an incident at Charlies was concerned. The procedure was however screwed up somewhat when the leading rider behind the Safety Car fell off at Barn Corner just before the Safety Car entered the Pit Lane – fortunately without injury – but that was something that definitely shouldn’t have happened. THE LIGHTWEIGHT SCENE – ENCOURAGEMENT FOR FUTURE STARS The growth in junior racing with 70’s. 80’s and 125’s is an encouraging development in recent years and is something that New Era is keen to provide the opportunities for. Among the growing band of youngsters at our meetings is one Taylor Mackenzie who is off to a great start with expert guidance from his father Niall who was of course a famous Grand Prix rider not so very long ago. At Cadwell on 15th March young Tom DOUGHTY aged just 15 rode his Conti 70cc machine into 19th place in the half-hour race covering 14 laps at an average speed of a shade under sixty miles an hour. In the difficult conditions prevailing that day that was quite a remarkable achievement. MALLORY MAGIC – HUGE ENTRY ON SUNDAY 30th MARCH FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NEW ERA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Despite the doom and gloom on the financial front the Club is pleased to announce that by far and away the biggest entry at Mallory for some time of over 200 riders has been attracted to the Club’s opening Championship Round. Some of the fastest Club riders in the country will be in attendance and there’s races for all the usual Classes plus Ducati Desmo’s. The Club’s new Supermoto Series - replacing last year’s KTM Series - is also there and well supported. The hot action Supermoto, with unique foot dragging style is a spectacle much enjoyed by cold spectators at this time of year! Some like ‘em – some hate ‘em – but there is also a couple of British Championship Kert races on the bill too!
